Hazel is finally able to see a specialist and make a plan for surgery. While waiting for the appointment, her pain has worsened significantly despite Dr. Zhang’s best efforts to manage it.

The specialist’s office is calling. They cannot find Hazel’s initial referral. Dr. Zhang has to create and fax a new referral.

Hazel is still waiting to hear from the specialist, after Dr. Zhang sent the second referral.

Dr. Zhang and his staff place multiple calls and send multiple emails/faxes to the specialist group to try and establish if they have booked an appointment for Hazel.

Dr. Zhang reviews the MRI results with Hazel, and then creates and faxes another referral to the specialist, this time accompanied by the new MRI result.

Dr. Zhang's office has received a fax back from the specialist, indicating that Hazel's referral has been rejected because it did not include a recent MRI result. Hazel will need to have another MRI.

Dr. Zhang creates an MRI requisition for Hazel and marks it urgent. Hazel continues to experience back pain while she waits for her assessment.
